Replacement sashes – 5 Regent Terrace

We were contacted in 2009 and asked to quote for re instating Georgian sashes to the full frontage of this grade A listed property.

The astrigals had been removed from the original six over six and six over nine style sashes to allow one large pane of glass to be fitted.

After consultation with the local planners and Historic Scotland, our workshop manufactured the Newtown astrigal detail and we manufactured replacement sashes in the original style.

The casements in this property were showing signs of neglect so our window renovation team fully renovated the casements, replacing pulley wheels, cills and replacing the exterior mastic seal with a traditional sand mastic.

As well as the substantial cost savings in renovating the original casements, another of the benefits to the client were far less upheaval in their homes. Replacing casements in occupied properties is a major  undertaking.

Most casements can be brought back to their original condition without compromising the end result, thereby avoiding the additional dust and disruption associated with their complete replacement,

The new sashes were then weighted and balanced to allow for heavier glass, draught proofed parting beads were installed, draught proofed  baton rods, and the easy clean system. Our new windows were then fully painted by our painting team and period ironmongery reinstated. The fanlight above the front door was also replaced with the original circular detail finishing off the job.

Our clients were delighted with the end result. Their windows being fully operational for window cleaning and future maintenance. They had also restored the original frontage to a beautiful Edinburgh Georgian property.

The pride and care that our men took on this project has resulted in our company undertaking many more contracts on this street.

“Skilled and considerate workmen who took great care with our home. The quality of the new replacement windows was so good, that we had our only original window refurbished to the same high standard. The whole house is now transformed”
